I have switched my blog over to using Pelican to generate it. A static site generator is enticing because it means I have fewer parts to maintain which is great for a site that I rarely update. Even if I do get back to updating more frequently I don't think I will miss any of the features of the CMSes I have used in the past.
I am also looking into using a SSG for creating very simple photo galleries because all of the other software packages I have looked at seem to be way more complicated then I require. Also I have no desire to have my canonical photo gallery be in the control of some other company. I used flickr in the past but left there a few years ago when I didn't want to pay for a duplicate service that I wasn't getting that much out of.
Hopefully the future is bright.
