Dispatch

Yesterday Dan and I went to the last Dispatch concert ever in Boston at the Hatch shell. We left about 4 and got down to the river about 15 minutes before the concert started. It was already crowded when we got there but Dan and I were not dissuaded we were able to get inside the walkway and get a pretty good view of the stage. There were 100,000+ people at the free show according to the band. That is an awesome turnout for an independent artist who has no links to the RIAA or their friends.

The band ...

Ben Folds, Guster, Rufus Wainwright

Last Sunday the 11th I went and saw Ben Folds, Guster, and Rufus Wainwright play at the Fleet Pavilion. The Pavilion is not near as large as I thought it would be so even though we had back row seats the view was fairly good.

Rufus played first. Damn is he hard to listen to live when you don't know his music. He doesn't enounciate as clearly as he does on his albums so its very hard to pick up on what he is singing. Still is music is very good and he did sing Hallelujah from Shrek ...

4th in Boston

Boston has a very nice 4th of July celebration that occurs every year. On Saturday a group of us went to see the Boston Pops concert on the Esplanade. It wasn't that crowded and the concert was very good. It wasn't quite the same as the concert on the 4th because they shifted the order of the music so they could record a section to be broadcasted to the military and to show on TV in case of rain on the 4th.

On the 4th, Joel and I walked around Fanuil Hall and Quincy Marketplace and checked out ...

Rent

So Ben had the awesome idea of going to the Wang theater to catch Rent before its run ended here in Boston. The musical is very interesting. The singing was top notch and featured a variety of musical types. The lead singers were on top of their games and put in top notch performaces. I wasn't familiar with the storyline going into the performance so at times it was a little hard to follow the cast and story. I was suprised by the love relationships in the story everyone was represented. At times touching or laughable kudos to Jonathon ...

Boston, IBM, & Summer

So I am now out in Boston for the summer. So far its been a blast. The people here in the BU dorms are really nice and I feel my team mates and I should be able to accomplish the goals we have set for ourselves for the summer. We should be able to deliver something we will really be proud of and IBM will find usefull.

I have been having fun on the weekends walking and taking the T around Boston. It is an interesting experience depending on public transportation and not having a car. I kinda like it ...

New backend

So I went and changed to WordPress as a backend for my journal because Blosxom was to annoying. It made it impossibily hard to edit posts since everything was based on the timestamp of the file.

I learned I don't care about having plain text files as much as I thought I would.

Either way I still didn't update at all in May. Hopefully that will change from now on, though I have said that in the past but have never followed up on it as of yet. I guess time will tell.

Penguicon Day 3

I didn't attend any Penguicon functions today because we needed to leave to get back to Tech at a decent time. We ate a really big breakfast and then hit the road 9.5 hours later arriving in Houghton. The weekend was a blast my fellow LUGers were awesome and I can't wait to do it again next year.
Pictures are available on the LUG website.

Penguicon Day 2

Day 2 started out really early, we arrived at about 10 to the con. I sat in on a Samba session by Chris Hertel. It was very intersting and gave me a better background into Samba and where it is going. I then got in on about half of a panel on the "Gender of SF" which Neil Gaiman was a part of. Very interesting panel and made me realize I haven't read near enough of the "old" Sci-Fi/Fantasy books. Next I went to the PS2 cluster presentation which was really interesting. I got a good background into ...

Penguicon Day 1

Today was awesome. Went to the con around 12. They were still in setup mode so we wasted time by going to Best Buy and went and watched a flick.
Around 4 the fun started. I went to two different sessions and then went and listened to Neil Gaiman read a short story. Even though he got there about 3 min before he spoke he did an awesome job. Very good story and very good reading. I stuck around for the opening ceremonies and Jon "maddog" Hall's speach.
After that I went and sat in on a forum on ...
